Men's Volleyball shows improvement in second game.
Last week was an exciting week for the Pioneer's volleyball program. Although both the guys' and girls' teams fell short, they played with heart and determination through every set. In the guys' debut game against Simpson University, they showed lots of promise as they fought to win each set. Outside hitter for the men's team – Sam Waituruturu – says, "our first games have been enjoyable, especially getting to play on indoor courts. There is a lot of good competition and I am looking forward to playing more games. As a team we definitely have our moments and we really seem to enjoy each other's energy on and off the court. Each of us has a strength that we contribute to the team that will help the team grow stronger." With practicing only outside for the past couple of months, the rush of being on a court again was enough to feel like a win. In the girls' double header against Simpson, they continued to improve set by set.
On Thursday, both teams made the trip down to central California to face UC Merced. The guys played a great game and came close to winning the third set with a final score of 26-24. "I feel like the guys show great promise for the season especially after the way they played against Merced. They had so much fire and energy the entire game, they never got down on themselves," says Coach Melissa Barton. This has been a tough season under Napa's restrictions, but the teams are making the best of it. We're excited to start practicing indoors again soon
