Looking Forward: Men's Volleyball 2022-2023
As the 2022-2023 season commences, Assistant Athletic Director and Head Volleyball Coach Melissa Barton shared her ambitions for the men's volleyball team within the upcoming year.
Her efforts in recruiting and coaching formed a team that has become increasingly competitive in the two years the program has been active. Reflecting on this progress and this season's new additions, she stated, "I think that's really promising for this year, having some bigger guys and new talent along with the returners to really make something happen."
This year, Coach Barton's goal is to guide the men's volleyball team to a top four spot in the conference, which will make them eligible for the NAIA postseason. After winning competitive sets against top schools in the previous season, she believes that the improvements the athletes will continue to make on the court will allow them to achieve this.
Her coaching philosophy this year seeks to accomplish this by cultivating a mindset of individual growth and a competitive spirit. "It is not guaranteed for the top six players to just jump on the court, they're going to have to compete for their spot every time they come to practice." She said, "Having that will enforce that drive and discipline to keep going further than they have in the past."
