Pioneer's win first match of CAL-PAC Seeding Jamboree
Story by Kenneth Perez
The Pioneers offense was effective across multiple fronts, with several players delivering strong statistical performances. Julian Clarke led Pacific Union with 11 kills while adding five digs and a service ace. Tristen Miller turned in an all around effort with 10 kills and a team high 16 digs, finishing with a .217 hitting percentage. Nate Tejada was highly efficient, recording nine kills and two service aces on an impressive .500 hitting percentage while also adding three digs. At the net, Bryce Teachout made a major impact with eight kills and six blocks while also hitting .500.
PUC's depth was on full display throughout the match. Noa Svendsen contributed six kills, four digs, and three blocks in a well rounded 3 set performance. Nick Delucia made the most of his opportunity, recording three kills and four digs in a one set cameo.
The Pioneers offense was directed smoothly by JV Cruzado, who finished with 22 assists, five digs, and two kills in his 3 sets. Ethan Durns added 17 assists along with five digs, two service aces, and a kill, helping keep the Pioneers system balanced and consistent throughout the match.
Walla Walla was led by Joaquin Juarez, who posted a match high 22 kills along with 12 digs and a service ace for 23.5 points. Setter Jonathon Tobar contributed 30 assists and five digs in the effort.
The Pioneers complete their season sweep of the Wolves, losing only 4 out of the 22 sets played. Pacific Union has now gone undefeated against its fellow West Coast Adventist schools in men's volleyball, both of which are in their inaugural seasons in the NAIA. As all three programs continue to grow, there is a strong sense that future matchups will only become more competitive.
The Pioneers return to the court on April 16 at 9:00 a.m. to face Central Christian (KA).
