PUC Pioneers Shine Across the Board with Triumphant Wins in Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball

The PUC Pioneers had an extraordinary day of sports action, with three of their teams delivering standout performances in their respective matchups. From Women's and Men's Soccer to Women's Volleyball, the Pioneers displayed their skills and determination, securing triumphant victories that left their opponents in awe.

Women's Soccer:

The day kicked off with the Women's Soccer team's early morning game at 10 AM, where they faced off against Providence Christian. The PUC Pioneers put on a commanding display, defeating their opponents with a resounding 3-0 victory.

  • The first goal of the game came swiftly in the 7th minute courtesy of #6 Bella Cervantes, who continued her impressive scoring form, following her back to back hat tricks. This brings her season tally to 7.

  • In the 37th minute, #23 Verenia Gonzalez showcased her class with another spectacular goal, proving  her fantastic goal last week was no fluke.

  • The third goal arrived in the 54th minute, this time courtesy of Jazmyn Bravo, who was on the receiving end of some brilliant passes this week after putting in some of her own last week.

Remarkably, #5 Daneca Nelsen contributed with assists for all three goals, earning her a hat trick of assists and emphasizing her creative and decisive passing skills.

The Women's Soccer team also demonstrated their defensive dominance by securing another clean sheet, thanks to the outstanding performance of freshman goalkeeper #0 Kaytlin Blair, who made two crucial saves.

With this victory, the Women's Soccer team extended their winning streak to four games, boasting an overall record of 4-0 and a conference record of 1-0. They are determined to maintain this impressive form as they face the University of St. Katherine on September 9th at 8 PM.

Men's Soccer:

The Men's Soccer team took to the field at 12:30 PM, facing Providence Christian College in an away game. In a truly impressive display of skill and determination, the PUC Pioneers secured a resounding 6-1 victory.

  • The first goal of the game was netted by #21 Mickyas Beyene in the 19th minute.

  • Despite a leveling goal from Providence in the 54th minute, the PUC team responded swiftly, with #21 Mickyas Beyene securing his second goal of the game in the 58th minute.

  • The scoring frenzy continued as PUC scored three more goals in quick succession, including an own goal from Providence, and Freshman #11 Franklin Antwi's first PUC goal

  • The final goal of the game was courtesy of #19 William Biondini.

  • Dominic Calvin recorded 2 assists and ended as the games top assister.

The PUC Men's Soccer team finished the game with an impressive 15 shots on goal while only allowing 2. This win was especially significant as it marked their first win of the season and a successful conference opener.

Next up, Coach Shane Shelton's squad faces the University of St. Katherine on September 10th at 8 PM.

Women's Volleyball:

The Women's Volleyball team rounded out the day with an outstanding performance at home against UAV (University of Antelope Valley). They secured a dominant 3-set victory, winning each set with a score of 25-14.

The standout player of the game was Captain #10 Izzy Bandy, who delivered a game-high 11 kills with an impressive .733 hitting percentage. She was instrumental in leading her team to victory.

Other notable standouts included Captain #7 Claire Harlan-Maghan, who displayed her incredible versatility with 10 digs and 5 kills. Libero #16 Olivia Newman led the team with 13 digs, while setter Ryin Le facilitated the offense with 16 assists.

The Women's Volleyball team's stellar performance added to the day's success, further highlighting the depth and talent within the PUC sports programs.

The PUC Women's Volleyball team looks forward to their next challenge as they face rivals La Sierra University at 3 PM on September 8th.

Coaches and players alike have demonstrated their commitment, resulting in a day filled with triumphant victories across multiple sports, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
